KANNASHA
KAVIKAL(Niranam Kavikal)
Kannasha Kavikal was supposed to be a group of
four people in the 1st century.Raman was more
famous amoung them for his work "Kannashsa
Ramayanam".Another member, Madhavan was the
first person who translated the Bhagavat Gita
to malayalam , before it was translated to any
other Indian languages . Shanker was known for
his work "Bharat Mala" .These three
were brothers and the forth member was their grand
father Viday Vishevaraman,whose works are yet
to be found. They played a major part in the construction
of Malayalam literature by interweaving Tamil
and Sanskrit. Kannasha Kavikal were idolised and
sought after by the famous Ezuthachan. |

SOMAN
Mr. M.G. Soman, the veteran actor of the Silver
screen, and a household name all over Kerala,
is a proud son of Thiruvalla. An actor with an
immence range and well nuanced style of his own,
he has breathed life into many a memorable character.
He is the president of 'AMMA', a union of filim
artistes. He has been an inspiring presence a
in number of cultural festivals in and out of
the Kerala and is the recepient of several filim
awards. Hearty salutaions to an inimitable actor
and a great personalty who expired recently. |

G. KUMARA PILLAI
A widely respected central figure, Mr. Kumara
Pillai began his social activities as a man of
prudence in the Kochi Prajamandalam along side
Mr. K. Karunakaran, Mr. V.R. Krishnan Ezhuthachen
and Mr. K.P. Madhavan Nair. A man who has set
apart life to fight the demon of liquor, he cites
the 'Gandhimargam' and his numerous teetotaller
friends as his inspiration and source of strength.
He has taken part in a number of instances of
passive resistance movements against the spreading
shadow of alcoholism. He has led historic agitations
at Mattancherry, Palayam, Oorumana, Azhimavu and
also before the Thiruvananthapuram Secretariate.
He has left his mark in literature also. His major
works include poetry anthologies like Ormayude
Sugantham, and Aralipookal and a compilation of
his prose works titled "G. Kumara Pillayude
Lekhana Samaharam". A much decorated man,
he is the recipient of " Kumaranashan Puraskaram,
Odakkuzhal Puraskaram, Kerala Sahithya Academi
Award, K.K. Nair Memorial Award and Ramashramsm
award. |

Artist
C.K.Raa
C.K.Ra came in to his own as a painter of note
during the protest demonstrations using paintings
against the torments of the Second World War.
At that time he was working as a painter boy in
Bombay. The outstanding paintings of those years
were "peace after war" prolute to revenge massacre
etc . Later he joined Santhinikethan and became
a disciple of great masters like Jamini Roy and
Nandanal Bose. A notable picture of Shanthinikethan
day's "gloomyday" sold to a foreign women for
mere Rs 60 was valued at 5 lakh dollars when it
was later exhibited in the Mexican art gallery.
When he returned to Kerala to work at the college
of fine arts it was the beginning of the 'Ra phase'
in Kerala painting. Some of the memeorable paintings
of this period were 'temple fantasia','washing
hair' and 'delightfull pain' work that aspire
to transcent the practiced responses to colour
form and meaning.He was appointed as the chairman
of Lalithakala Academy |
